You read and checked if an ebook was right for your blog, and then researched into what topic your ebook should be on. Then, you went ahead and actually wrote the ebook using our 10 tips on writing an ebook. Now, we’re going to move on to the marketing and publishing part of Premium Content 101.To start off, we’re going to learn how we can make an attractive and eye-catching ebook cover for free, plus I’m going tell you the top 3 qualities of an well made ebook cover.
First of all, you will want to look at this site, which has blank templates for ebooks, and a step by step guide on how to create a kick-butt ebook cover. I’ve used the steps in this tutorial before, and they work 100% and deliver quality results. As much as I’d like to go over the steps of creating an ebook cover (I actually had an entire tutorial typed up, but then I realized it wasn’t Tuesday
), I think it’s more appropriate if I give you 3 solid and sure to work qualities that are present on an eye catching ebook instead.
Top 3 Qualities of an Attractive eBook
- Price - If you’re looking to sell or distribute your ebook at all, it either needs to be free, or have a very attractive price. So the number one tip I can give you on creating an good ebook cover is to have a flashy price tag on the cover page of the ebook. Make sure it’s readable and make sure it catches your attention from the other parts of the ebook. If your ebook is free, type “FREE” in big letters somewhere on the cover. If it’s for a low price, type “Only $X.XX” on the cover. This is often the key selling point of any ebook.
- Title - Beyond the price, the title is obviously a very crucial part of an ebook cover. Your title has to be attention grabbing and catchy, but even more important is the presentation of the title. Make the letters big enough to be readable without any strain, and use a font that is relevant to your niche. Obviously don’t use Jokerman font for an official report on the state of our economy. Your title should always be in the center and take up at least 40% of the entire cover.
- Subliminal Images - It’s been proven by numerous studies over and over that subliminal images and messages can increase your sales (or distribution, if you’re giving it away for free). I’m not advocating you go out and put evil messages in the back of your ebook cover, but make sure that the graphics, colours, and words put into your ebook stand for what you’re trying to sell. Remember the colour rules: green means cash/trust, blue means cool, red means urgent, and yellow means important. Use these and other graphics to sell your ebook.
So that is how you can create a custom ebook cover for free, plus the three qualities you’ll want to include in your ebook cover. If you don’t believe me, I invite you to search around. I’m sure you’ll find that the majority of successful ebooks demonstrate these qualities.
Hopefully your ebook is progressing well! On the next post in Premium Content 101, we’ll discuss how to write a sales copy for your ebook!
